Terms of service

Last updated 2026-08-05

1. The service

SourceIP Intelligence, LLC ("we", "us") operates sourceip.io, an API and dataset that attributes IP addresses to the operators that run them. By using the service you agree to these terms.

2. Free tier

The free tier permits non-commercial use only: research, education, personal projects, and internal evaluation. Use is commercial — and requires a paid tier — if lookups inform a product or service you sell, support an engagement you are paid for, or are performed on behalf of a third party.

Free-tier limits are 100 lookups per client address per day without a key, and 1,000 lookups per day with an issued key. We may change these limits with notice on this site.

Free-tier use requires attribution where results are published or displayed: a visible credit to SourceIP with a link to https://sourceip.io.

3. Acceptable use

Your use must comply with our acceptable use policy. In particular, you may not attempt to reconstruct the dataset in bulk through repeated lookups, circumvent rate limits, or redistribute results as your own dataset without a bulk data agreement.

4. API keys

Keys are issued to a single organisation and must not be shared publicly or embedded in client-side code. You are responsible for use made under your key. Tell us promptly if a key is exposed and we will rotate it.

5. No warranty, and what the data is not

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Attribution data is compiled from third-party published sources and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong.

SourceIP is not a safe list, an allow-list, or a threat feed. A match identifies who operates an address; it is not a statement that traffic is benign, and trust level 2 explicitly covers infrastructure operated on behalf of unrelated third parties. You must not use the dataset as the sole basis for permitting or blocking traffic, and you remain responsible for your own security decisions.

6. Availability

No uptime commitment applies to the free tier. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service. Paid tiers may carry a separate availability commitment, which will be stated in that agreement.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on attribution data.

8. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access that breaches these terms or the acceptable use policy, or that threatens the stability of the service. You may stop using the service at any time.

9. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page, and continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
