What counts as non-commercial use?
Research, education, personal projects, and internal evaluation. If lookups inform a product you sell, a service you operate for customers, or a paid security engagement, that is commercial use and needs a paid tier.
How often does the data refresh?
The pipeline re-fetches every provider source and rebuilds the dataset daily. Every lookup response carries a last_updated timestamp, and the status page shows the age of the current snapshot.
Is this an allow-list?
No. SourceIP tells you who operates an address, not whether traffic to or from it is safe. Trust level 2 in particular covers infrastructure rented to third parties, where the activity is not attributable to the named provider. Do not load it into a firewall as an ACL.
What happens when I hit the anonymous limit?
The API returns 429 with a Retry-After header. The quota is counted per client address per UTC day and resets at midnight UTC. Request a free API key for 1,000 lookups per day.
Can I get the whole dataset?
Yes. The bulk tier provides the daily compiled snapshot plus JSONL exports for offline ingestion. Contact us with your use case and volume.
